Kate Gomes serves as a Student-Athlete Transition and Support Coach at Christopher Newport University, working with the baseball team and football student-athletes with last names L through Z. She provides individualized academic coaching and helps student-athletes develop the organization, accountability, and time-management skills needed to successfully navigate college. 

Gomes previously supported CNU foootball student-athletes from 2016 to 2019. Her relationship with Christopher Newport began as a four-year member of the sailing team from 2004 to 2008 and has continued through roles in coaching, student-athlete support, football operations, and sailing program administration. She has served multiple terms as an assistant sailing coach, led the program as interim head coach in 2020, and later managed sailing operations remotely. She is currently serving again as Interim Head Sailing Coach, providing leadership and continuity until a full-time head coach is hired. 

Gomes earned her bachelor's degree in Government from Christopher Newport in 2008, a Master of Education from Old Dominion University, and a Master of Science in Athletic Leadership from Clemson University. She has also worked as an educator, primarily at the high school level in Virginia, Corpus Christi, Texas, and San Diego, California. 

She remains an active competitive sailor regularly competes in regattas. Originally from Midlothian, Virginia, Gomes now lives in Chesapeake with her husband, Vince, and their daughter, Charlotte.Â
