2003 - Senior Season - Made two appearances during her final year at CNU … Earned a starting nod during a win over Bridgewater on October 24 … Also helped lead the Captains to a victory at Sweet Briar on October 8.
 
2002 - Junior Season - Took part in four contests during the year … Earned a start during a victory at Hood on October 26 … Also appeared in a victory over Sweet Briar on September 1 … Saw action in battles with Longwood on October 8 and Lynchburg on October 19 as well.
 
2001 - Sophomore Season - Made 12 appearances during her first season on the field with the Captains … Earned a starting assignment against Sweet Briar on September 9 … Made her debut with the team at Randolph-Macon on September 5.
 
2000 - Redshirt Freshman Season - Sustained an injury and was sidelined during her first year in Newport News.
 
1999 - Freshman Season (at Ferrum) - Started all 12 games during her first collegiate campaign with the Panthers … Primarily served as a halfback.
 
At Deep Creek - Was a second-team All-Southeastern District selection for coach Butts … Named the team’s Defensive Player of the Year as a senior … Also competed in gymnastics and was an Honors Graduate.
 
Personal - Melissa Burns is the daughter of Mike and Millie Burns … Has one sister, Michelle … Her cousin, Abby, also played field hockey at CNU, while her uncle, Patrick, played football at Missouri … Also plays lacrosse for the Captains and competed in the sport at Ferrum as well … Majoring in exercise science.
