Mat Thomas begins his ninth season as an assistant coach at CNU in 2023. He has also coached with the Hawks Premier and Saints Hockey Rocks club teams.

A skilled athlete in his own right, Thomas grew up playing field hockey in New Zealand before moving to San Francisco in 2001. In addition to competing with club teams in California and as a graduate student at Old Dominion, he was also a member of the USA Junior National Team.
