2008 - Junior Year - Another fine season as the Captains' closer...Had saves against Averett as well as Johns Hopkins as CNU defeated the team that wound up second in the nation, in the first game of the NCAA Regional Tournament...Also had a win over Arcadia in which he went two shutout innings on one hit...Also went 2.1 in a key game in the USA South Tourrnament against Methodist, allowing just one run...Had a great summer with the Peninsula Pilots of the Coastal Plain Collegiate League with 14 saves and a 0.79 ERA in 34.1 innings. He had 35 strikeouts and just nine walks and was selected to play in the league all-star game.
2007 - Sophomore Year - Developed into a dependable closer and earned second team all-USA South honors as a relief pitcher...Made 20 appearances and allowed runs only five times, with one being unearned...Six times he pitched two innings, or more...Earned saves in CNU victories over Virginia Wesleyan, Castleton St., Greensboro, Virginia St. and Lynchburg...Also had a win against Greensboro...Hurled 2.1 perfect innings versus Greensboro and one, or more, perfect inning in contests against Shenandoah, Castleton St., Methodist, Virginia St.,Randolph-Macon, Lynchburg and Dickinson.
2006 - Freshman Year - Saw action on the mound in five games for a total of 13 innings...Made one start, against nationally-ranked Salisbury, and hurled six innings of relief, allowing just four hits and one run, versus Greensboro.
AT ROBERT E. LEE - Honorable mention all- Northern Region and first team all-Liberty District as a senior pitcher playing for coach David Gardzeil... The previous year he was honorable mention all district at shortstop...Also an all-district performer in both basketball and football...He was the basketball team's MVP and was named the school's Most Athletic as a senior...Won the Student-Athlete Award and was a member of the Military Science Club and DECA.
PERSONAL - Kevin Andrew Moreland was born
Sept. 8, 1987 in Springfield, Va...He is the son of Ken and Karyn Moreland and is majoring in Political Science...His older brother Kenny, 22, was an All- America pitcher at CNU and is currently playing in the Baltimore Orioles organization.
