Christopher Newport University

Sean Montgomery returns for his sixth season as an assistant coach with the Christopher Newport baseball team now in his third stint with the Captains. He first joined the CNU coaching staff from 2011-12 before rejoining the Captains in 2016-17 and again starting in 2022. 

Bringing a vast amount of coaching experience to the program, he previously served as an assistant coach at Virginia Wesleyan from 2009-11 before returning for three more years from 2013-15. After the 2017, he went back to the Marlins for a four-year stretch through the 2020 season. 

Prior to his time with the Marlins, he has also coached for two seasons at Tallwood High School and three at Kempsville. 

Before joining the coaching ranks, Montgomery was an All-District designated hitter and catcher at Salem High School before moving on to catch at Louisburg Junior College for two seasons.
