George Fisher

George Fisher joined the Christopher Newport baseball coaching staff in 2019 for his first season with the Captains. He returns for his second year in 2020. Fisher has been coaching since his first year out of college in 2002 in a variety of roles, including stints at Averett University, the College of William & Mary, and Marymount University. 

Fisher started his coaching career at his alma mater as and worked with the Cougars from 2002-2009. His primary responsibilities were to manage the development of the pitching staff and over the course of his tenure he coached six All-Conference pitching selection, one south region pitcher of the year and a major league draft pick over seven seasons. He helped guide the Cougars to a program-record 31 wins in a season and the highest ever national ranking. 

After his tenure at Averett, Fisher was hired at William & Mary from 2009-2011 to work with the pitching staff and baseball camps. He helped develop Co-CAA Pitcher of the Year Logan Billbrough who was named an All-Region selection and went on to sign with the St. Louis Cardinals. He then was named Assistant Baseball Coach for the first-year program at Marymount University from 2012-14. For the last three years, Fisher has been working with the New Kent HS program as an assistant coach. 

Fisher brings an extensive coaching resume that also includes time with the Evansville Otters of the Frontier Independent League. As a player, Fisher was a first tea All-Conference and first team All-South Region selection in 2001. He was named to the USA South 50th Anniversary Team and also played for the Otters, where he was a Mid-Season All-Star. He graduated from Averett in 2001 with a degree in Physical Education with a minor in Coaching.Â
