NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport men's baseball player Josh Brinkman has been named the State Farm Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 19th, 2010.
Brinkman, a senior from Newport News, led the Captains over the weekend in a 5-4 win against Shenandoah, in Burlington, N.C. Pitching on only two days of rest, from the previous game against Ferrum where he only allowed one run in the first seven innings, Brinkman limited Shenandoah to just three runs in seven innings. Shenandoah closed the margin with a score of 4-3 in the seventh however Brinkman got the win, making him 7-3 for the year.
The baseball team is currently 23-14, taking on Salisbury University April 22, at home.
