Biography

2014 - Senior Season - Saw action in 22 matches and earned eight starts during her final year with the Captains … Was simply unstoppable during CAC action as she led all qualified players with a .533 hitting percentage during league play … Unloaded 35 kills and committed just three attack errors during her six matches against conference opponents … Had a season-high 12 kills during her first start of the year against Penn St. Harrisburg on October 18 … Came back with 11 more against Marymount on October 25 … Had an excellent postseason run, including an eight-kill, four-block effort in the CAC semifinals against St. Mary’s on November 6 … Also pumped four kills without an error in the championship match against Salisbury on November 8 before duplicating that feat against Gallaudet during the first round of the NCAA Tournament … Finished the year with 67 kills and a .437 hitting percentage … Contributed 19 blocks as well.

2013 - Junior Season - Saw significant action along the net for the Captains, competing in 28 matches and 78 sets during her second year with the program … Ranked third on the squad with a 0.72 blocks-per-set average after recording 56 rejections during the year … Earned her second start of the year during the first round of the NCAA Tournament and came through with a season-high eight blocks against Cabrini … That effort highlighted an outstanding postseason run, which also included four blocks against Salisbury in the CAC Finals on November 9 and three stops against Eastern in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on November 16 … Also collected five blocks at Randolph-Macon on October 4 before matching that total at St. Mary’s on October 23 … Had multiple blocks in 16 matches during the year … Also chimed in with 122 kills on the offensive end, including a season-high 11 against Stevenson on November 2 … Followed up that effort with a combined 15 kills during the CAA Tournament before adding six more against Cabrini.

2012 - Sophomore Season - Appeared in 20 matches and 42 sets during the year … Earned seven starts, including four crucial appearances while leading the Captains to their sixth straight USA South Championship … Made her CNU debut against Salisbury on September 4 and assisted on a block during three three-set victory over the Sea Gulls … Earned her first start of the year and collected three blocks against No. 16 Puget Sound on September 7 … Cracked the lineup again the next day against No. 5 Wittenberg during the final day of the Juniata Asics Invitational … Had a nice run with three kills on just six swings against Catholic on September 21 before posting three more blasts and a season-high four blocks against Ferrum the following afternoon … Earned another start and posted four kills while hitting .444 during a three-set victory over Greensboro on September 29 … Combined to post nine kills without a single attack error during a solid three-match run from Oct. 14-20 … Made her most important impact while filling in for All-American Bailey Jensen during a weeklong run late in the year … Kicked off the streak with a season-high 12 kills and three blocks during a thrilling five-set victory against No. 16 SUNY-Cortland … Earned three consecutive starts during the USA South Tournament, posting four kills against Methodist in the first round, six against Averett in the semifinals, and eight against Maryville in the championship bout … Came back with her final blast of the year during the NCAA Tournament against Randolph-Macon on November 10.

2011 - At East Tennessee State - Appeared in 17 matches while making three starts as a redshirt freshman for the Bucs … Collected 74 kills, 32 digs, and eight blocks during the year … Made her collegiate debut in the season opener, posting five kills, five digs, and two blocks against Evansville on Aug. 26 … Reached double-digit kills on two occasions, blasting 11 at Stetson on Oct. 14 before posting 12 at Kennesaw State on Oct. 28 … Just missed a double-double against Stetson after chipping in with a career-high nine digs as well … Had a nine-kill effort against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 10 … Added seven kills and a career-high three aces against Appalachian State on Sept. 17.

2010 - At East Tennessee State - Accepted a medical redshirt and retained a year of eligibility.

At Jamestown - Served as a standout middle blocker during each of her first three seasons before taking over as an outside hitter during her final campaign with the Eagles … Helped lead the team to a district co-championship as a freshman before taking home the outright title two years later … Selected to the first-team All-District, All-Region, and All-State squads as a junior in 2008 … Named the 2009 Virginia Gazette Co-Player of the Year for her efforts … Also selected to the first-team All-District and All-Region squads in 2009 … Set a state record after launching 45 kills in a single match … Also ranks third all-time in Virginia after recording 285 service points as a junior … Set school records for kills, blocks, aces, and service points.

Personal – Krista Lynn Hughes was born on August 5, 1992 in Albuquerque, N.M. … She is the daughter of Ken and Mary Beth Hughes and has two brothers, Nathan and Noah … She volunteered at Comber Physical Therapy and hopes to become a physical therapist … Her favorite movie is The Lion King, while her favorite book is The Help … She names Charles Barkley as her favorite spots personality and lists Van Morrison as the person in history she would most like to meet … She is majoring in psychology at CNU.
