Christopher Newport University

2025 -- Junior Season -- Continued his career at Christopher Newport and again showed tremendous skills helping lead the CNU defense...named second team All-Conference in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC)...accounted for 43 tackles, including four for lost yardage, with 16 solo takedowns...also registered 1.5 sacks and recovered a fumble...made seven tackles and recovered a fumble in CNU's home win over Salisbury on November 8th...also logged seven tackles in a Christopher Newport victory over Montclair State on November 1st at TowneBank Stadium.  

2024 --  Sophomore Season -- Became a key defender for the Captains and saw playing time in all ten games...compiled 56 tackles, including 23 solo stops...5.5 of his tackles were for lost yardage, amounting to 24 yards lost...registered two sacks for 17 yards lost...also broke up two passes...posted his best game in week 2 at home vs. Johns Hopkins, recording six solo tackles, five assisted stops, and both of his sacks...made five solo tackles and assisted on four in CNU victory at Kean...contributed at least one tackle in every game.

2023 --  Freshman Season -- Opened his collegiate career by playing in all four games in the month of September for the Captains before his season came to an end due to injury... played in three home games at TowneBank Stadium vs. Southern Virginia, Gettysburg, and Salisbury and also traveled to Baltimore to take on Johns Hopkins...posted a total of 18 tackles, nine solo and nine assisted...logged eight tackles vs. Gettysburg and seven at Johns Hopkins...also recorded two sacks, one at Johns Hopkins for a ten yard loss and the other vs. Salisbury for a 12-yard loss of yardage. 

2022 --  First Season -- Did not see action for the Captains in his opening season at the collegiate level.

At Western Branch -- Named team captain all four years for the Bruins ... Recorded over 90 tackles in each of his four seasons ... Earned All-Region honors as a sophomore and junior and collected honorable mention plaudits as a senior ... Bruin Award winner ... Student of the Year ... Member of the National Honor Society.

Personal -- Spencer Tomasi Bruning was born in Portsmouth, Va. and goes by the nickname Masi ... Son of Erik and Jessica Bruning ... Has five brothers, Tita, Ele, Kiely, Aeto, and Iulai ...
