NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Continuing to make history on a nearly nightly basis, Christopher Newport senior Amy Sidaway started in goal for her record-breaking 66th game on Wednesday night as the Captains women's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw against Marymount University (2-4-1). Sidaway picked up her 38th career shutout in the 90-minute performance as the Captains are now 4-1-3 on the year.

Sidaway's 66th start matches Haley Eiser (2018-21) for the most goalkeeper appearances in program history and sets a new standard for the most starts. She also became the first goalie in CNU women's soccer history to record 10 ties over the course of her career when the Captains tied the Saints on Wednesday. 

With her 38th career shutout, Sidaway moved into the top-20 all-time in NCAA Division III history and is now tied with three other netminders for 20th. She continues to dominate against her peers, ranking first in Division III among active players in shutout percentage (.569) and second in the whole NCAA landscape including Division I, II, and III. She also is in the top-five among active players in goalkeeper minutes played and goals-against average. 

Helping the senior goalkeeper keep Marymount off the board was a back line that included Malayah Warner, Nora Cook, and Bella DiTommaso. Catie Borsuk slid back in the second half while Saige Berta also appeared on defense to help lock up the team's fifth shutout of the season in just eight games. 

The teams played amid swirling gusts of wind that reached close to 30 mph and challenged players to control the ball all game. CNU hosted the game at Jennings Family Stadium on the turf field to alleviate issues of heavy rainfall in Newport News over the previous 24 hours, but the windy conditions impacted both teams. 

CNU extended a four-game unbeaten streak and outshot the Saints by a final count of 18-4. Five of the Captains' attempts were on target but one of the best opportunities in the game came late in the second half on a shot that was just wide of the goalmouth. After a restart on a foul in the 89th minute, DiTommaso had a service from about 40 yards away from the goal. She placed a beautiful ball on the back post and rookie Caelyn LaFlamme, this week's C2C Offensive Player of the Week, was there to make a play on the pass. She connected on a header, but played it just a touch wide of the goal and the Captains were kept off the board. 

Earlier in the second half, junior Anaya Lozano had another close call on frame when she ripped a shot in the 66th minute, but Mara Dufour, the Marymount keeper, scrambled to her right to save the short-range bullet.  

In total, the Captains piled up 18 shots with four apiece by Grace Shifflett and DiTommaso. Lexi Hazelgrove added three shots while Alessi Carrier put a pair on frame. 

CNU will look to continue its unbeaten streak when the team heads away from home for three games starting next Wednesday. The Captains will take on Catholic University at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30 to start the road trip.
