No. 2 CNU Men's Lacrosse Concludes Six-Game Homestand on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Ohio Northern

Live Broadcast // Live Stats

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Capping off a six-game homestand, the second-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will welcome Ohio Northern to Jennings Family Stadium on Sunday for a non-conference showdown beginning at 1 p.m.

Entering the weekend, CNU sits at 8-0 on the season, including 6-0 at home. Meanwhile, Ohio Northern is 3-2 with a 2-1 record on the road.

For those fans unable to attend the game, Christopher Newport will provide a live broadcast of the contest with Will Geise and Jackson Deal calling all of the action. Live stats will also be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Sunday's outing will conclude Christopher Newport's six-game stretch at Jennings Family Stadium, which equals the longest regular season homestand in program history. The 2017 squad also hosted six consecutive regular season games from March 4-22.

During the last five home bouts, senior All-American Jamie Smith has scored 22 total goals, including a hat-trick in every appearance. That stands as the third-highest total by any Captain in a single homestand in school history. Fittingly, current broadcaster and former legend Will Geise owns the program standard after accumulating 27 goals during the six-game homestand in 2017.

Along with Geise, perennial All-American Dylan Rice had 24 strikes during a 2022 homestand, which included four postseason games. Interestingly, Rice's work during that stretch capped off a 27-game streak with at least one goal from April 24, 2021 - May 21, 2022. That stands as the third-longest stretch in program history, which Smith could match on Sunday.

Currently, Smith has scored a goal in 26 consecutive games dating back to March 2, 2025.

Fellow All-American Kevin Miller will also look to extend his scoring streaks on Sunday. He has registered at least one assist in 31 consecutive games, which already stands as the all-time program record. It is twice as long as the second-best streak, which was a 15-game stretch by Coby Auslander from April 8, 2023 - March 2, 2024.

Additionally, Miller has posted a point in 46 straight games dating back to March 15, 2024. That is the third-longest stretch by a Captain, trailing only Auslander (61) and Andrew Cook (55).

Aided by his recent scoring blitz, Miller was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List on Thursday afternoon. The most prestigious honor in collegiate lacrosse, the Tewaaraton Award is handed out each year to the nation's top collegiate player regardless of class or division. He is one of only two Division III players on the Watch List, along with Tufts' senior standout Jack Regnery.

CNU will also try to extend its home winning streak on Sunday, which has reached 13 straight games dating back to last season. That stands as the second-longest active streak in the country. Top-ranked Tufts has ripped off 14 straight and will go for its 15th consecutive triumph on Saturday afternoon against No. 16 Amherst.

In the team's most recent appearance, Christopher Newport knocked off Franklin & Marshall, 19-12, on Tuesday. Ryan Miller led the victors with seven points, including five assists. Kevin Miller also had six points, while Randolph Campbell and Jamie Smith added hat-tricks.

Along with Campbell, three other midfielders posted multi-goal efforts for CNU. Fred Fulkerson, Jackson Platner, and Ethan Slusher all had two strikes apiece. Meanwhile, the Captains also controlled possession throughout the contest while capturing 20 of the 35 faceoffs, including 13 wins by Grant Giunchi and a 7-for-11 showing by Zach Ward.

Ohio Northern enters the weekend after beating Wabash, 10-5, last Saturday. The Polar Bears held Wabash scoreless for the first 36 minutes of action while securing a 6-0 lead in the third quarter. Nathan Flynn, Jack Switter, and Ben Gridley all had three points for the victors, while Peyton Lich made 11 saves.

In his second year as a starter at Ohio Northern, Lich boasts a remarkable 7.52 goals-against-average during his career, which is the second-best mark of any active goalie in the NCAA. Last year, he helped lead the Polar Bears to the program's first Ohio Athletic Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. In the playoffs, he pocketed 14 saves in a first-round win over Aurora before adding 20 in a setback at No. 3 RIT.

Along with Lich, senior defenseman Alex Bergeron was a standout on last year's squad and earned USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American accolades for his efforts. So far this season, he has six caused turnovers and 10 ground balls. Meanwhile, Colin Willits, Nathan Flynn, and Ryan Frech are also back after garnering All-Conference nods last spring.

Sunday's showdown will be the first meeting between CNU and Ohio Northern in men's lacrosse.

After this weekend, Christopher Newport will return to action on March 13 when the team opens up the Mustang Classic with an 11 a.m. battle against No. 5 Lynchburg in Owings Mills, Maryland.
