NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Captains of Christopher Newport University suffered two road losses Wednesday at Virginia Wesleyan University's Broyles Field. The Marlins, ranked second in the nation, defeated the ninth-ranked Captains in the opener, 8-0 in six innings, and then took the nightcap in five innings, 15-2. CNU fell to 3-3 with the losses, while VWU upped its record to 4-0 to start the season.
The Captains were no-hit in the opener by VWU's Hannah Hearl, reaching base only twice on a walk and an error in the 8-0 defeat. CNU posted eight hits in the nightcap, producing two runs in the 15-2 loss. Juniors

Katrina Swan registered two singles each, and Slaw and junior
Natalie Quinlan recorded the runs batted in.

Keith Parr's squad travels to Raleigh, N.C., this weekend for the Grand Slam Triangle Classic. CNU will play Tufts University on Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. start, and will then play Muhlenberg College later in the day at 4:00 p.m. The Captains will then play Sunday against William Peace University (12 noon) and Sweet Briar College (2:30 p.m.).
