NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Captains swept doubles and won five of six singles matches to cruise to a 6-1 win over Shenandoah University in men's tennis action on Friday afternoon. Gabe Smith and Rainer Christiansen led the way with a pair of wins for CNU in the dual victory.

In doubles play, Barrett Foster and Vincent Truong paired up to make quick work of Dominick Suwak and Lucas Beasley on the top line, 6-2. Smith paired with Nesh Kumaresan for a 6-2 win at No. 2 against Artem Babaiev and Neal Love while Christiansen played with Nathan Russell for a 6-3 win at No. 3 against Shine Tokas and Max Arkans.

Moving into singles play with a 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point, the Captains clinched the team victory with the first four points in singles. At No. 2, Smith clinched his two-win day with a hard-fought victory against Beasley 7-5, 7-6 (3). Christiansen also wrapped up his two victories with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Tokas.
