NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Opening up a six-game homestand on Wednesday at 6 p.m., the third-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will host No. 12 Washington and Lee in the ninth annual Virginia Lacrosse the Nations Cup at Jennings Family Stadium.

CNU enters the midweek match-up with a 3-0 record, including a 1-0 mark at home. Meanwhile, Washington and Lee is 0-1 after dropping a 10-8 decision to No. 7 York (Pa.) in the squad's season opener on Saturday.

For those fans unable to attend the game, Christopher Newport will provide a live broadcast of the contest with Andy McGregor and Jake Myers calling all of the action. Live stats will also be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Wednesday's game will serve as the ninth edition of the Virginia Lacrosse the Nations Cup, which is the annual battle between the Captains and Generals. Both programs use the game as a way to raise awareness for Lacrosse the Nations, which is an international organization that utilizes lacrosse to teach important life skills while improving education and health for children in need.

In the midst of three straight games against nationally-ranked competition, CNU kicked off the grueling stretch with a 16-9 victory over No. 9 Gettysburg on Saturday at Stevenson University's Mustang Stadium. Against the Bullets, Jamie Smith deposited six goals, which equaled the 10th-highest single-game total in school history and the third-most against a top-20 foe.

Along with Smith, Ryan Miller chipped in with five points, while Kevin Miller had four assists, which marked his 26th consecutive game with at least one helper. It also was his eighth straight appearance with at least three assists. Both of those runs stand as the longest by a Captain in program history.

Saturday's game was also Kevin Miller's 41st consecutive game with at least one point, tying former All-American Dylan Rice for the third-longest streak in school lore. Only Coby Auslander (61) and Andrew Cook (55) produced longer runs.

Meanwhile, on the defensive end, Mason Bellinger pocketed 16 saves, including 10 in the middle two quarters as the Captains flipped a 3-2 deficit into an 11-7 lead. Additionally, Mark Davison caused three turnovers and helped lead a unit that blocked eight shots during the contest. Short-stick specialist Chris Lewis had two of those deflections on a single rally in the fourth quarter, while he also forced another attempt to sail wide after getting a piece of the shooter's stick.

AJ Rosacker also notched his 84th career caused turnover on Saturday, moving him one shy of matching longtime legend Brandon Moloney for the third-most by a long-stick midfielder in program history. Just ahead of Moloney, Teddy Pekalsi is second on that list with 92 takeaways, while Phoenix Hines owns the all-time program record with 187 strips.

Along with Rosacker, Bellinger is also approaching history. The senior goalkeeper is six saves shy of reaching 300 for his career. He would become just the fifth Captain to reach that benchmark, joining a list of luminaries including Zac Hanway, Matt Hayden, Andy McGregor, and Scott McAneney.

Washington and Lee opened its season with a hard-fought 10-8 setback at York (Pa.) on Saturday. After surrendering the first two goals of the game, the Generals cut their deficit down to one on three occasions in the first half, but the Spartans never lost their advantage. Making his collegiate debut, freshman Luke Caldwell led W&L with four points after notching two goals and a pair of assists against York.

After claiming the 2025 ODAC Championship, Washington and Lee advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 last season while compiling a 17-4 record. The Generals welcomed back four All-Americans, including Elliot Cohen, who was named the USA Lacrosse Magazine National Preseason Specialist of the Year.

In addition to Cohen, Chris Datz, James Haley, and Jay O'Keefe garnered Preseason All-Americans nods as well.

Wednesday's showdown will mark the 14th meeting between CNU and W&L. Currently, the Captains hold a 7-6 edge in the series, including a 6-2 ledger in the Lacrosse the Nations Cup. Last season, Christopher Newport collected an 18-13 win in Lexington. Kevin Miller had seven points for the victors, while Smith landed four goals.

Following the midweek action, CNU will remain at home on Saturday for a 6 p.m. showdown with No. 17 Stevenson.
