Game Notes  ||  Live Stats  ||  Live Video

SALISBURY, Md. -- Christopher Newport women's basketball has logged a 5-1 record since the calendar flipped to 2026 with the one loss coming at the hands of Salisbury University (14-8) in an overtime thriller at the Freeman Center on January 17. The Captains will look to erase the memory of that setback when they travel to the Maggs Physical Activities Center on Wednesday evening to wrap up the home-and-home regular season series with the Sea Gulls at 4:30 p.m.

The matchup will be played as the front end of a doubleheader with the men's teams who will tip off at Maggs at approximately 7:30 p.m. Both games will be available for viewing on a live video webcast as well as through live stats. links to both can be found at the top of this page and on the women's basketball schedule at CNUsports.com.

Prior to suffering the overtime loss earlier this year, the Captains had strung together 19 straight wins against Salisbury. The all-time series favors Christopher Newport, 34-13, and was powered primarily by that roll from February 3, 2016 through February 21 of last year. CNU will be facing Salisbury on the road for the 23rd time while boasting a 16-6 record in Maryland.

Christopher Newport is coming off a convincing 69-46 win against Mary Washington just ten days after the Eagles dispatched the Sea Gulls on the road, 52-50. The Captains were led by senior McKenna Snively in the win over UMW with 12 points including a trio of triples on four attempts from beyond the arc. She added four assists and three rebounds in 17 minutes of action with a pair of steals to boot. Juniors Mia Wilson (11) and Elizabeth Creed (10) each added double-digit scoring performances and Wilson dished out a game-high five assists against the Eagles.

This season, sophomore Madison McKenzie has paced the Captains with 12.3 points per game in her second season. She has also been a defensive leader for CNU with 41 steals and 12 blocked shots. Creed (41) and Caitlin Crump (40) have also snagged 40 steals to help lead a Captains defense that ranks in the top-ten nationally in turnovers forced per game and steals per game.

Salisbury was led by Nicole Miller with 28 points on 9-of-15 shooting in the win against CNU earlier this year. Abby Plaugher added 13 points and Kayla Nieberlein had 10 in the overtime win. Miller just eclipsed 1,000 career points in the Sea Gulls most recent game and is leading the conference with 17.5 points per game this season. She and Plaugher are the top three-point threats for Salisbury with 81 combined triples this season and the Sea Gulls lead the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference in shooting efficiency beyond the arc.

Following the Wednesday evening matchup, the Captains will return to Newport News for Senior Day on Saturday, February 14 against Regent University. Tip against the Royals is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
