20th-Ranked Captains Host 24th-Ranked Johns Hopkins Wednesday Night at 6 PM at the Freeman Center

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -
Christopher Newport University hosts a Top 25 showdown at the Freeman Center Wednesday night, as the Captains entertain the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.

Christopher Newport has won its last five games, and 12 of its last 13. John Krikorian's squad is 13-3 and moved back into the D3hoops.com national poll at the 20th spot this week. Johns Hopkins has a mark of 9-2 and the Jays have won their last three games. JHU is ranked 24th in the country in the first poll of the new year..

The Captains are coming off a pair of victories this past weekend in the Stockton Classic in Galloway, N.J. CNU defeated Rowan University on Friday, 64-56, and then defeated the host school, Stockton University, on Saturday, 77-57. Johns Hopkins also posted a win on Saturday, defeating Stevenson University, 90-82.

Junior Toa Hollenbeck had a productive couple of days in the Garden State, scoring 19 points vs. Rowan and 25 more in the win over Stockton. Hollenbeck became the 35th player in CNU history to top the 1,000-point mark in the Rowan triumph, and leads the Captains this year averaging 18.2 points per game. 

The game Wednesday night will be the seventh all-time in the series, and the Captains hold a 5-1 series lead. CNU last year defeated the Blue Jays on January 8th in Baltimore, 85-66. Junior Jason Ofcarcik led the way for CNU in the game, scoring 21 points and pulling down 11 rebounds at Goldfarb Gymnasium. Hollenbeck also had a big night for the Captains, scoring 18 points and knocking down three three-pointers. The Captains have won the last four games in the series, which dates back to December of 2017, and Christopher Newport is 3-0 vs. Hopkins at the Freeman Center.

Tickets for the game will be available at the Freeman Center Ticket Office prior to the action Wednesday night. Christopher Newport games are broadcast live on the Home of the Captains, Xtra 99.1 FM and CNUsports.com. The pre-game show will begin at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday. The video of the action will be streamed live and links to watch the game as well as to follow the live stats are provided at the top of this story.

Following the game, the Captains will have a ten day break before hosting East Texas Baptist University at the Freeman Center on Saturday, January 17th. Tip off time is set for 4:00 p.m.
