NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport University's volleyball team split a pair of Saturday afternoon matches against teams from across the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel.
In their first meeting with Regent University, also a member of the Coast-to-Coast Conference, the Captains cruised to a 3-0 (25-9, 25-7, 25-18) win. Earlier in the day, CNU lost 3-0 to No. 23 Virginia Wesleyan (25-17, 25-23, 30-28).
The Captains (9-6) never trailed while outscoring the Royals 75-34. CNU had a balanced offensive attack with eight kills by
Samantha Dorn (.571), a career-high six by freshman
Madison Rogers (.667) and five by
Emmy Carpenedo.
The Captains finished with a .405 hitting percentage, their second-highest figure of the season. CNU had 13 service aces led by Dorn with four.
Against Wesleyan, Dorn had 11 kills and Carpenedo added nine.
Alyssa Dozier had three blocks and setter
Fielding Croft finished 32 assists, a career-high average of 10.7 per set.
The Captains' next match will be against Mary Washington (4-13) Wednesday night in Fredericksburg. Like CNU, the Eagles are a member of the Coast-to-Coast Conference.
