NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After back-to-back weekend trips to the Northeast, Christopher Newport University's volleyball team will return home for three matches in the Freeman Center.
On Friday at 7 p.m., the Captains (7-5) will host Haverford (Pa.) College of the Centennial Conference. The Fords (9-2) have won five consecutive games, four coming at home. CNU is 3-0 in the series, which includes a two-game sweep on the road last season.
Saturday at 2 p.m., CNU will go against No. 23 Virginia Wesleyan (14-0) for the 28
th time in the rivalry's history. The Captains are 23-4 against the Marlins and won 3-1 last year in Virginia Beach behind 11 kills from
Samantha Dorn.
At 5 p.m., CNU will face Regent University (8-3). It will be the first matchup between these teams.
Four of the Captains' five losses this season — Wisconsin-Whitewater, Trinity University, Juniata College and Johns Hopkins — have come against teams currently ranked in the top 12 of this week's AVCA poll. CNU defeated then-No. 22 NYU on Sept. 13.
The Captains' stat leaders include middle blocker
Alyssa Dozier (121 kills, 3.99 per set), freshman setter
Fielding Croft (228 assists, 5.30 per set) and libero
Maddie Hanes (117 digs, 2.72 per set).
In addition to the three home matches, the Freeman Center will host a neutral site matchup between Haverford and Virginia Wesleyan at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
