TEMPE, Ariz. -- For the seventh year in a row, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association recognized Christopher Newport men's tennis as an All-Academic Team as the organization released the 2024-25 honors earlier this month. Under the direction of head coach Eric Christiansen, the Captains featured four ITA Scholar-Athletes including the first ever five-time ITA Scholar Athlete in program history in Edvard Porsmyr Hansen.

Joining the fifth-year senior, three more Christopher Newport men's tennis players earned ITA Scholar Athlete recognition in 2024-25. Ashton Legum earned the certificate for the fourth time in his four-year career while Vincent Truong and Nesh Kumaresan also repeated among the prestigious honorees. 

Selections must have a grade-point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year. The ITA uses the award to recognize collegiate tennis players adding to the rich intellectual community found on college campuses. 

All four of the Captains were named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selections and were also recognized as Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference All-Academic picks. 

In total, 1,115 Division III Men's Tennis standouts were named an ITA scholar-Athlete and 135 men's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, the program must have a team GPA of 3.2 or above, all student-athletes should be included on the institutional eligibility form, and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the year. 

The ITA is the governing body of college tennis, overseeing men's and women's varsity tennis at NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and Junior/Community College. The ITA administer a comprehensive awards and rankings program for men's and women's varsity players, coaches, and teams in all divisions, providing recognition for their accomplishments on and off the court.
