Vincent Truong, Ashton Legum, and Nesh Kumaresan Haul in VaSID All-State Men's Tennis Honors

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- After helping the Christopher Newport men's tennis program reach new heights in 2024-25, three Captains have been earned All-State recognition by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) following a vote held by the organization. Leading the way, junior Vincent Truong was selected a first team All-State pick in both singles and doubles while his playing partner, Ashton Legum, also collected first team doubles honors. Rounding out the 2025 All-State selections for CNU was junior Nesh Kumaresan, earning second team All-State honors in singles.

Truong repeated as a first team selection in both disciplines while Kumaresan has now been recognized in each of his first three seasons. It marks the first time Kumaresan has earned All-State singles plaudits after earning the doubles nod in both 2023 and 2024. Legum was a second team All-State player in 2024 for both singles and doubles and caps his illustrious career as a two-time All-State player in pairs play.

The Captains were led by the nationally-ranked doubles tandem of Truong and Legum as the duo finished the year ranked No. 27 in the final poll. It marked the highest finish for a doubles team since Alec Strause and Ryan Macy finished at No. 16 in 2021. The CNU pairing was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Doubles Team of the Year and boasted a 10-7 overall record in 17 matches together. Winning eight matches at No. 1 doubles, the two secured a pivotal victory against Mary Washington to help power the Captains to the C2C Championship.

Truong also secured first team honors in singles after a first team All-Conference season while playing on the top line for Christopher Newport. He recorded seven wins at No. 1 including a dominant victory in the conference championship match to help CNU raise the trophy. He had an impressive win against Diego Segovia, ranked No. 26 in the nation, when the Captains took on 24th-ranked NC Wesleyan.

Finally, Kumaresan also earned first team All-C2C accolades after overcoming an injury to appear in 13 matches for the Captains in his third season. The junior played primarily at No. 2, where a pair of back-to-back wins against Salisbury University highlighted his season.

CNU hauled in the highest national ranking in program history this year when the team checked in at No. 17 late this Spring. The Captains finished out the season with a 13-8 overall record while ranked No. 19 in the ITA final poll.
