CNU Junior Outfielder Jake Benedict Hauls in All-Region Honors from ABCA and D3baseball.com

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Earning his first career All-Region citation, Christopher Newport junior outfielder Jake Benedict (Glastonbury, Conn.) was named a second team All-Region player by both D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) on Tuesday afternoon. Benedict becomes the first CNU outfielder since Conner Clark, Trey Hicks and Jordan Mason in 2019 to haul in All-Region plaudits.

With Benedict's selection, the Captains have boasted at least one All-Region player in all but one season since 2016. From Kenny Allison earning the distinction as the first Captain to collect All-Region status in 1982 through Benedict's pick in 2025, CNU baseball has had 11 different outfielders combine for 14 certificates.

This season, the Captains' leadoff man from Connecticut was on a torrid pace from the opening pitch through the very last out of the year. Leading the high-scoring offense for CNU from the leadoff spot all season long, Benedict's breakout campaign included being the only Captain to start all 39 games this year. Despite hitting at the top of the order, Benedict led the Captains in slugging percentage with the highest mark since 2022 at .599; he delivered a team-high 13 doubles, two triples, and five home runs.

He delivered at least one base hit in all but eight games this season and reached base in 33 of 39 games played this year while boasting a .471 on-base percentage, ranking second on the team. He finished 2025 ranked in the top-150 of Division III players with a .395 batting average, ranking second in the conference behind only his teammate Aaron Maxie (.411). Benedict scored 51 runs, leading the Captains with the most runs in a season since Seth Woodard scored 64 in 2019. The junior registered 20 multi-hit games including three four-hit performances.

The All-Region performance included Benedict terrorizing the basepaths with 18 stolen bases in 19 attempts. He is only the third CNU player to steal 18 bags in a season since 2013, joining Clark and Jordan Mason. Defensively, he had a 97.7 percent fielding percentage with just two errors in 87 total chances.

Christopher Newport finished out the season with a 21-18 overall record and reached the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship.
