MEDFORD, Mass. --
The fourth-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will continue the postseason on Saturday at 6:45 p.m. when the Captains square off with No. 8 Bowdoin in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Tufts' Bello Field in Medford, Massachusetts.

The Captains enter the weekend with an 18-3 record, while Bowdoin sits at 15-3. The winner of Saturday's showdown will advance to the NCAA Semifinals for a battle against the winner of the Elite Eight match-up between No. 1 Tufts and No. 10 Gettysburg. The semifinal clash is slated for Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets to Saturday's game will be $10 for adults and $5 for students and children. For those fans unable to attend, Tufts will also provide live stats and a video stream of the contest. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Making its fifth straight appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinals, Christopher Newport joins Tufts and RIT as the only programs in the nation with five consecutive Elite Eight berths. During those appearances, the Captains also have two Final Four trips after reaching the national semifinals in 2021 and 2023.

CNU punched its ticket last weekend after upending Grove City, 16-14, in the second round of the tournament before beating No. 16 Lynchburg, 22-10, on Sunday. During the two games, senior All-American Brett Jackson landed 12 total goals, including seven strikes against the Hornets. That established a new postseason record for the Captains, as did Kevin Miller's six assists during that tilt.

With his outburst last weekend, Jackson boosted his career total to 31 goals in NCAA Tournament action dating back to his freshman season. That stands as the second-most by a Captain in program history, trailing only Alex Brendes' 34 postseason tallies from 2020-24.

Meanwhile, with his work in the opening rounds of the tournament, Miller now has 78 assists this year. That leads the country and ranks 11th on the all-time Division III single-season charts. It also stands as the third-most by a sophomore in NCAA history, trailing only Kean's Will Van Dorn (92 in 1998) and Amherst's Quinn Moroney (80 in 2014).

Along with setting a new school standard for assists this year, Miller also eclipsed the program's points record on Sunday. He enters the weekend with 110 total points this season, topping the old mark of 105 set by Dylan Rice in 2022.

Fittingly, for his work this year, Miller was honored as a second-team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine on Wednesday. Additionally, Warner Cabaniss garnered first-team accolades, Jamie Smith was a third-team selection, and both Jackson and Mason Bellinger grabbed honorable mention citations.

Cabaniss currently ranks 11th in the country with a .683 faceoff percentage, while his 1,098 career victories place him fifth in Division III history and ninth among all collegiate lacrosse players in NCAA lore. Meanwhile, Smith leads the nation with 79 goals this year, and Bellinger pocketed his 222nd save of the season on Sunday. That stands as the third-highest total by a Captain.

On the other side of the field, Bowdoin boasts an equally impressive collection of standouts. Patrick Fitzgerald ranks second in the NCAA with 76 goals this year, while Casey Ryan is eighth with 58 assists. As a team, the Polar Bears lead the NCAA in clearing percentage (.924), rank 16th in scoring defense (8.33 goals-against-average), and slot 21st in scoring offense (15.56 goals-per-game).

For their work this year, Fitzgerald was named a second-team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine, while Ryan garnered honorable mention accolades. Meanwhile, on the defensive end, Jed Hoggard hauled in first-team nods, and Jack Pyne was an honorable mention recipient. Hoggard leads the team with 32 takeaways this year, and Pyne has 16.

Bowdoin reached the NCAA Quarterfinals for the second straight season after upending Rivier, 28-3, and No. 17 Amherst, 16-5, in back-to-back bouts last weekend. The Polar Bears were the only team in the country to win each of its first two tournament games by double-digits.

Saturday's match-up will be the first meeting between Bowdoin and CNU.
