ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Due to rainfall in North Carolina, the Christopher Newport baseball game at North Carolina Wesleyan University has been canceled. The teams were in the third inning when the weather made it impossible to continue and the game was called due to unplayable conditions; the game will not be rescheduled. Next up, the Captains will turn to face Eastern Mennonite University at 4:00 p.m.
The Captains got off to a hot start offensively against the Battling Bishops on Tuesday, scoring three times in the top of the first inning.
Jake Benedict and
Aaron Maxie led the way as the team's leading hitters while
Sam Benedict ripped an early double in the contest. By NCAA rule, all statistics accumulated in the suspended game will not be counted toward the Captains' season box score.
Following the cancellation, the Captains will have just three games left on the 2025 schedule starting with Wednesday's trip to Harrisonburg to take on the Royals. CNU owns a 17-3-2 all-time record against the Royals. The Captains have won eight straight in the series, sweeping the 2024 home-and-home series by outscoring Eastern Mennonite, 26-10.
Live stats and a live video webcast will be available for all the action with links found on the baseball schedule at CNUsports.com.
