SALEM, Va. -- Following a three-game homestand, the fourth-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will return to the road this weekend when the Captains travel to Roanoke on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tilt at Donald J. Kerr Stadium.
Entering the match-up, CNU sits at 6-0 on the season, including 1-0 on the road. Meanwhile, Roanoke is 5-1 overall and 2-1 at home.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a 21-4 victory over John Carroll on Wednesday. That marked the program's fourth consecutive win against a team that advanced to last year's NCAA Tournament. Previously, the Captains toppled No. 18 Stevenson, Grove City, and Scranton.
During the triumph over the Blue Streaks, 19 different players recorded at least one point, including a hat-trick by
Jamie Smith.
Kevin Miller and
Joey Fantinato also chipped in with five-point efforts, while
Bennett Spruell,
Logan Shassian,
Jude MacLean, and
Will Cramp all had two strikes apiece.
On the defensive side,
Mark Davison registered seven caused turnovers, which equaled the fourth-highest total in program history and established a new facility record. CNU also won 23 of the game's 29 faceoffs, including a 10-for-11 performance by
Grant Giunchi.
So far this season, Christopher Newport ranks fifth in the NCAA in scoring offense with an 18.50 goals-per-game average. The Captains are also 10th in takeaways-per-game (15.00) and 21st in faceoff percentage (.697).
On an individual level, Miller is sixth in the country in assists-per-game (4.00) and 20th in points-per-game (6.17).
Warner Cabaniss also ranks 25th in faceoff percentage with a stellar .683 rate.
Roanoke also features one of the country's elite attacks as the team enters the weekend ranked third in the NCAA in scoring offense with a 20.17 goals-per-game average. Leading the way, Luke Kammerman ranks first among all active players in the nation with 355 points and 183 assists. Wyatt Whitlow is also second with 212 goals. So far this season, Kammerman has a team-high 24 points, while Whitlow is second with 23.
Boasting a 5-1 record, Roanoke's lone loss of the season came at the hands of No. 14 Dickinson on March 4. However, the Maroons quickly rebounded with a 16-14 triumph over Grove City during a neutral-site battle in Jacksonville, Florida on Wednesday. During that game, RC jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the opening quarter and held off a late rally by the Wolverines to secure the bounce-back victory.
In eight previous match-ups between the two programs, Christopher Newport holds a 6-2 edge in the series, including a 22-5 triumph in 2022. Among the players returning from that match-up,
Brett Jackson scored a goal for the Captains, while
Zack Sands went 13-for-17 on faceoffs. On the other side, Kammerman had an assist for the Maroons.
After this weekend, Christopher Newport will remain on the road for a trip to the Callum Robinson Mustang Classic in Owings Mills, Maryland. The Captains will face No. 10 Gettysburg on March 14 before squaring off with No. 18 Lynchburg on March 15.
