Christopher Newport Welcomes Oswego State Back to Captains Park on Tuesday Afternoon at 3:00 PM

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Concluding the Lakers' Spring Break trip to Virginia on Tuesday afternoon, the Christopher Newport baseball team will face off against Oswego State (7-3) at 3:00 p.m. The Captains and Lakers matched up in a 5-3 decision in favor of the visitors on Saturday and Christopher Newport will look to rebound at 3:00 p.m.

It is the next game on the schedule for CNU while Oswego State has since played twice more with wins against Virginia Wesleyan, 13-2, and Randolph-Macon, 12-10, to improve to 7-3 on the season. CNU is 10-9 overall this season heading into the bout against Oswego as CNU is now 1-4 all-time against the Lakers.

Live stats and a live video webcast will be available online at CNUsports.com. Admission to all home CNU baseball games is free of charge.

In Saturday's setback, the Captains got a solid pitching performance from senior Jackson Baird, allowing three earned runs in 6.1 innings pitched while striking out eight. Offensively, Josh Reinhold delivered his sixth double of the season and went 2-for-4 to lead the way.

Jake Benedict and Justin Liakos are each riding double-digit on-base streaks heading into Tuesday's battle with Benedict's 13-game roll a season-high for Christopher Newport. He has scored 27 runs this season already with at least one run scored in all but three games so far and the CNU junior ranks 10th in the nation in total runs scored. Benedict also ranks seventh nationally in total hits with 32 and is hitting a team-high .410 this season. Liakos is hitting .349 with five extra-base hits while offering flexibility in the field as a starter at second base and in right field.

The leading run producers for Christopher Newport have been Aaron Maxie, hitting .407, with 14 RBI, Cameron Slough with 17 RBI and Sam Benedict with 14 RBI in 13 games played. Jake Benedict and Liakos have each driven in 12 and Doc Daniels has 10 runs batted in this season.

Oswego is riding a winning streak of six straight games coming into the Tuesday afternoon matchup. The Lakers are led by Dylan Rosenberg, hitting .432 with eight runs scored. Patrick May and Daniel Winchester have each added two home runs this season with a combined 20 runs batted in.

Following the Tuesday afternoon matchup, the Captains will travel to New Jersey for three games at Montclair State this weekend. CNU will take on Swarthmore (March 21), Montclair State (March 22), and Lesley University (March 23).
