CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Christopher Newport University travels to the Queen City for a pair of games in the Jay Bilas Classic Friday and Saturday. John Krikorian's squad is riding a seven-game winning streak, and will play seventh-ranked Emory University on Friday at 5:00 p.m. CNU will then take on Denison University Saturday, with tip off set for 3:00 p.m.

This marks the third consecutive year the Captains have made the trip to Charlotte for the two-day tournament. This year's action will take place on the campus of Johnson & Wales University Charlotte.

The Captains improved to 8-2 on Tuesday night following an exciting 97-95 double overtime home win over Virginia Wesleyan University at the Freeman Center. All five Christopher Newport starters scored in double figures, led by 26 points from junior Toa Hollenbeck, and the Captains got double-doubles from senior Collin Hines (14 points, 12 rebounds) and junior Ethan Ward (13 points, 14 rebounds). Juniors Tyson Henderson and Isaiah Dozier both contributed 18 points as the Captains held off the Marlins, snapping their six-game winning streak.

Emory University has a record of 5-1 entering Friday's battle with the Captains. The seventh ranked Eagles have won their last four games, most recently a 90-65 victory over Berry Colllege on December 7th in Atlanta. CNU and Emory will be meeting for the fourth time in history, and in the third straight season. Last January 4th at the Freeman Center, the Captains registered an 83-76 triumph over the Eagles. Emory presently holds a 2-1 lead in the series.

Saturday's game with Denison will be the first meeting ever of the schools. The Big Red is 6-2 heading into the Classic, and has won four straight games. Denison, located in Granville, Ohio, last played on Saturday, winning at home over the University of Lynchburg, 83-74.
