VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Riding a six-game winning streak and boasting an overall record of 8-2 this season, the Christopher Newport women's basketball team will be back in action on Tuesday night as the Captains travel to Virginia Wesleyan University (5-3) for a 6:00 p.m. tip against the Marlins.
The Captains are coming off an exhibition appearance against Division I Navy on Sunday afternoon but have not played officially since a Thursday evening matchup at North Carolina Wesleyan on December 4. CNU won that game, 99-73, to extend the winning streak to six.
Virginia Wesleyan is 5-3 this season and last played on Wednesday, December 10 when the Marlins fell to Salisbury, 88-68. After winning three straight to start the season, Virginia Wesleyan is 2-3 over the last five games.
Tuesday night's game will be the 69th matchup all-time between the two programs with Christopher Newport boasting a 47-21 advantage in the series including 11 straight.

Caitlin Crump (7.7 ppg) all helping lead the way.
The Marlins are led by Brianna Long with 19.3 points and 14.0 rebounds per game. Long ranks in the top-40 nationally in both categories including eighth in rebounds per game. Bre Robinson (13.5 ppg) and Jaiden Hunter (10.8 ppg) are each averaging double figures through the first eight games.
After the Tuesday tilt at Virginia Wesleyan, the Captains will return home for the Nelson Hinson Invitational on Friday and Saturday this weekend. First, Maryville and nationally-ranked Catholic will face off at 5:00 p.m. on Friday before CNU takes on York (Pa.) at 7:00 p.m.
