NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -
Christopher Newport University and Virginia Wesleyan University will renew their long-running rivalry on Tuesday night, as the Captains and Marlins will meet at 7:00 p.m. at the Freeman Center. Both teams are coming off ten-day breaks for final exams, and both have won six consecutive games.

John Krikorian's squad has a record of 7-2 after beating Southern Virginia University on Saturday, December 6th, 81-58, in Buena Vista, Va. CNU's defense allowed just 19 points in the second half, and junior Toa Hollenbeck led the way in scoring with 20 points, and senior Collin Hines (11) and junior Ethan Ward (10) also reached double digits. Christopher Newport never trailed in the second half, and used a 15-2 run to stretch the lead with Hollenbeck, Hines, and junior Zyir Baskerville each scoring five points in the four minute rally. The Knights got no closer than 11 points the rest of the way as the Captains cruised to the 23-point triumph.

The Marlins enter Tuesday night's action with a 7-1 mark for the season. Dave Macedo's squad also last played on December 6th, defeating Randolph College in Virginia Beach, 71-62. VWU's only loss of the season came at the hands of the University of  Wisconsin-LaCrosse in the TowneBank Tipoff Tournament in Virginia Beach on November 8th, 74-71. The Marlins are currently ranked 11th in the country.

Tuesday's meeting will be the 92nd in the series that dates back to CNU's inaugural slate of men's basketball in the 1967-68 season. The Captains hold a 53-38 advantage in the series, and have won seven of the last 11 games dating back to the 2013-14 season. Last year in Virginia Beach, Christopher Newport recorded a 74-72 triumph in overtime.

Christopher Newport games are broadcast live on the Home of the Captains, Xtra 99.1 FM and CNUsports.com. The pre-game show will begin at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday. The video will be streamed live and links to watch the action as well as to follow the live stats are provided at the top of this story.
