NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Alyssa Dozier celebrated her Senior Day with 15 kills, four solo blocks and three aces as CNU volleyball defeated Roanoke College 3-0 (25-16, 25-11, 25-12) in the Captains Invitational Saturday in the Freeman Center.
In winning for the 16
th time in its last 18 matches, CNU (22-7) completed the regular season with its most wins since 2019. Next for the Captains is the Coast-To-Coast Championship, which begins Friday in Santa Cruz, Calif.
Dozier's four solo blocks boosted her career total to 156, which moved her past Angie Cook on CNU's all-time list. She now trails only Dawn Terry, who had 245 solo blocks from 1983-86.
Samantha Dorn had 10 kills with a .563 percentage.
Emmy Carpenedo added six and
Simone Schaefer had four.
Fielding Croft finished with 32 assists, her 14
th consecutive match with at least 10 per set.
Senior
Maddi Morrison had a career-high four solo blocks, including the first three points of the match. She had two kills, the second coming on the final point of the match.
CNU scored the first five points of the opening set but then gave up seven consecutive points to the Maroons. The Captains later regained control with a 13-3 run and took a 22-11 lead on an ace by Dorn.
Carpenedo closed the set with kills for the 24
th and 25
th points.
In the second set, CNU took the lead for good on a kill by Dozier to make it 4-3. Morrison had her fourth block to make it 22-11, and the Captains' next three points came on a Croft ace, as Carpenedo kill and a set error.
CNU began the third set with four consecutive points and rolled from there. Dorn had five kills in the set.
Dozier, who had 36 kills with a .508 hitting percentage and 7.5 blocks in the three matches, was named the Invitational's MVP. Two fellow Captains, Croft and
Simara Alexander, joined her on the all-tournament team.
Rounding out the team were Hannah Pringle (Eastern), Viviana Fragoso (Eastern), Syd Bietz (Centre) and Teagan Hubble (Roanoke).
