ALTOONA, Pa. - Four players reached double figures Friday night as the Christopher Newport University men's basketball team opened the season with an 86-67 victory at Penn State Altoona. Junior
Toa Hollenbeck came off the bench to lead the way with 13 points, as the Captains opened their 58th season of action at Adler Arena.

Tyson Henderson, and freshman
Tyler Sprague, who each contributed 11 points. Hines, the only senior on the CNU roster, also pulled down nine rebounds and logged four assists while Henderson also dished out four assists.
The Captains trailed seven minutes into the opening half, 7-6, but went on a 10-0 run and never fell behind again. Christopher Newport held a 44-33 lead at the intermission and opened the advantage to as many as 29 in the second half.Â
"It's always good to get a victory on the road," Head Coach
John Krikorian said following the win in the first-ever meeting of the programs. "We have plenty of room for improvement, but everyone got to play and I think there were several important learning opportunities."Â
In all, 18 Captains saw playing time, with four freshmen and a transfer making their CNU debuts. Sprague, a freshman from Harrisonburg, Va., made four-of-seven shots, including three three-pointers, and also posted four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Junior transfer
Zyir Baskerville scored seven points, pulled down six rebounds, and posted two steals.
The Captains shot 48 percent (35-of-73) from the field, and made seven-of-30 from long range. CNU held a 51-27 advantage on the boards for the night.
Penn State Altoona (0-1) was led by 13 points from Braelen Cage, the lone Lion to reach double digits in scoring.
Christopher Newport will open at home this Wednesday, November 12th, against Randolph-Macon College at the Freeman Center. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. The Yellow Jacket of R-MC are slotted second in the nation in the pre-season poll from D3hoops.com.
