DANVILLE, Va. -- After back-to-back road wins last week, the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team is headed back on the bus Tuesday as the Captains (4-2) are traveling to Averett University (1-3) for a 6:00 p.m. tip at the Grant Center in Danville, Virginia.

Fans unable to attend the game in person have the opportunity to watch the game online through a FloCollege Sports subscription. Live stats will also be available, free of charge, courtesy of the Averett Athletics Department. Links to both can be found on the women's basketball schedule at CNUsports.com or at the top of this page.

The two teams matching up on Tuesday have played 75 times prior to the game this week, with Christopher Newport holding a 66-9 advantage in the all-time series. CNU has only faced North Carolina Wesleyan (87 games), Greensboro (87 games), Methodist (86 games) more often as Averett and the Captains were long-time conference foes as members of the Dixie Intercollegiate and USA South Athletic Conference.

CNU has won seven straight in the series and 14 of the last 15 games dating back to 2008. The rivalry was renewed three years ago after a nearly ten-year break; in the three games since, Christopher Newport has won all three by an average of 40.7 points including a 97-53 win last year at the Freeman Center.

This season, the Captains are led by sophomore Madison McKenzie with 14.7 points per game in six starts. She was named the C2C Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds at Arcadia in the Captains' last game. Despite McKenzie's surge, the Captains have continued to showcase tremendous balance with six more players averaging at least 6.7 points per game this year. Among them are rookie Sydney Worsham, pouring in 10.0 points per game while grabbing a team-high 16 steals, and sophomore forward Sarah Pritz with 7.7 points per game in just 13 minutes per contest.

CNU has leaned on a veteran front court with Elizabeth Creed and Jessica Dornak combining for 9.3 rebounds this season to lead the way. Dornak has started four straight games for the Captains and is knocking down 47.4 percent of her shots since joining the starting lineup. Creed hauled in a season-high eight rebounds at TCNJ last week and is adding 6.7 points per game on the offensive end.

Averett is coming off a win against Pfeiffer University on Wednesday, November 19 when the Cougars captured a 57-51 victory. Sophomore guard DaiShaundria Giggetts leads theith 16.3 points per game so far this season while also leading the team in steals. Giggetts has led the team in scoring in three of the first four games with a pair of 20-point scoring performances.

Christopher Newport will return to action after the Thanksgiving holiday when they wrap up the season-opening eight-game road trip with a game at Shenandoah University on Sunday, November 30 at 3:00 p.m.
