Captains Return to the Freeman Center Saturday Afternoon for 4 PM Game vs. Cairn

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -
Christopher Newport men's basketball returns to the Freeman Center on Saturday afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. game against the Highlanders of Cairn University. John Krikorian's Captains are 2-2, while Cairn enters play with a 4-1 mark so far this season.

The Captains are coming off an exciting 78-69 victory on Wednesday night at North Carolina Wesleyan University in Rocky Mount, N.C. Junior Tyson Henderson led the way with 23 points, and junior Toa Hollenbeck posted 22, all in the second half, to propel the Captains to victory. North Carolina Wesleyan took a six-point lead in the second half, 60-54, when Hollenbeck took over. Even though suffering from a sprained ankle, scored eight straight points, six coming on two three-pointers, starting a 12-0 CNU run that put the Captains ahead to stay. Hollenbeck scored his 22 points in 22 minutes played and was five-for nine from the field for the night and also knocked down ten of 12 free throws. He added three rebounds and two steals.

Henderson, meanwhile, posted 12 points in the opening half and followed with 11 in the second half, and added eight rebounds, two steals, two blocked shots and an assist. He made eight-of-12 shots and six-of seven at the foul line. Senior Collin Hines also had a big night, registering his first double-double of the season with 12 points and ten rebounds, and also recorded three assists and three steals.

Cairn University, located in Langhorne, Pa., is off to a 4-1 start and most recently posted a victory at Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday night, 64-54. The Highlanders have also recorded victories this year over Penn State Brandywine, CCNY, and Manor College, while falling to William Paterson. The Highlanders are averaging 83.6 points per game through their first five. The game will be the second in the all-time series after the Captains downed the Highlanders last year in Langhorne, Pa., by a score of 94-72. 

Tickets for the game will be available at the Freeman Center ticket office. It will be the second home game of the season for the Captains, who fell to Randolph-Macon College, 71-65, on November 12th in the home opener.
