COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Following a historic showcase during a pair of games over the weekend, Christopher Newport standout
Lindsey Loar secured national recognition for her efforts as the junior juggernaut was named the Honorable Mention Offensive Player of the Week by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Wednesday morning.
With the award, Loar became the first player in program history to receive national accolades on the offensive side. Previously, current teammate
Lily Kerr and former stars Stephanie McKinney, Marcella Sabbagh, and Brooke Billhimer were all celebrated as the country's Defensive Player of the Week by the NFHCA.
Each week, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association recognizes two players on both sides of the ball for their performance over the previous seven days. Along with Loar, Westfield State's Caroline Andrade was named the organization's Offensive Player of the Week, while Colby's Ginna Jacoby and Catholic's Ella Bowman garnered the defensive honors.
Building upon a remarkable junior campaign with the Captains, Loar helped carry CNU to a pair of victories over the weekend. During back-to-back battles, she scored four of the team's six goals while landing the game-winning tally in each contest.
On Saturday at No. 13 York (Pa.), the Fredericksburg, Virginia native opened the scoring with a dagger from the top of the circle in the 14th minute. Buoyed by that blast, Christopher Newport went on to post a 2-0 victory, marking the program's third win against a nationally-ranked opponent this season.
Just 24 hours later, Loar came back with a memorable performance during a 4-0 triumph against Rhodes at Jennings Family Stadium. Against the Lynx, she registered her second career hat-trick after landing the opening blow in the fourth minute before connecting on a pair of fourth-quarter strikes. Coupled with her three-goal outburst against Virginia Wesleyan on September 25, 2023, she became just the eighth player in program history to record multiple hat-tricks.
Adding another layer to her award-winning week, Loar also became just the second Captain to score a goal on back-to-back days in two different states, joining longtime legend Katelyn Yandle, who accomplished the feat in 2010. Eventually, she capped off her whirlwind tour with her 20th career tally, becoming the 22nd player to reach that plateau.
So far this season, Loar leads CNU with nine goals and 20 total points. Her three game-winning strikes are also tied for the team-lead, while her 0.82 goals-per-game rate is the 49th-highest in the entire NCAA.
Loar and the rest of the Captains will return to action on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when Christopher Newport hosts No. 3 Salisbury at Jennings Family Stadium.
