NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Riding a season-best six-match winning streak, CNU volleyball will host the Coast-to-Coast Invitational this weekend in the Freeman Center.
The Captains (14-6) will begin play Friday at 6 p.m. against UC Santa Cruz (8-9). On Saturday, CNU will play the University of Mary Washington (6-17) at 2 p.m. before concluding the invitational against Salisbury University (18-5) at 6 p.m.
The Captains defeated both Mary Washington and Salisbury earlier this month by scores of 3-0 and 3-1, respectively. In the all-time series, CNU is 21-30 against the Eagles and 30-20 vs. the Sea Gulls.
CNU is 6-4 against the Banana Slugs, 1-1 in the Freeman Center.
The Captains' current winning streak is their best since a seven-match run last season. CNU has won eight of its last nine matches, six by 3-0 scores.
Senior middle blocker
Alyssa Dozier continues to lead the Captains in kills (205, 3.25 per set) and blocks (74, 1.17). In her last three matches, Dozier had 52 kills with a .420 hitting percentage and 14 blocks.
Juniors
Samantha Dorn and
Simara Alexander each had double-figure kills in three of their last four matches. Freshman setter
Fielding Croft has had at least 33 assists in five consecutive matches and is averaging 7.54 per set.
