Christopher Newport Volleyball Heads to Virginia Beach for Weekend Quad

Christopher Newport Volleyball will cross the James River this weekend for three matches at Virginia Wesleyan. The Captains will face the Marlins on Friday, September 27 at 7:00 PM, followed by matches on Saturday against Stevens at 11:00 AM and Albion at 1:00 PM.

The Captains begin their weekend against Virginia Wesleyan on Friday night before taking on Stevens and Albion on Saturday. All three matches can be streamed live on Boxcast.

Last Time Out

Christopher Newport went 3-0 last weekend, defeating Eastern and sweeping a doubleheader against Haverford. Senior setter Alyssa Vitale earned Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Offensive Player of the Week honors after setting back-to-back season highs in assists with 42 in the first match and 45 in the second. Samantha Dorn led the Captains in kills, amassing 49 total over the three matches.

1.09 - Senior middle blocker Alyssa Dozier ranks second in the C2C with 1.09 blocks per set and is one of just 39 players in Division III averaging over one block per set. Dozier recorded 16 blocks over last weekend's three matches.

Series History

The Captains hold a 22-4 all-time record against Virginia Wesleyan, including a five-set road victory in October 2023 where four Captains posted double-digit kills. CNU is 2-1 against Stevens, with both wins coming in neutral site matchups in 2011 and 2009. This will be the first-ever meeting between CNU and Albion.

Scouting the Marlins

Virginia Wesleyan is off to an 11-1 start this season and is undefeated at home with a 7-0 record. Last weekend, they opened conference play with wins over Roanoke and Ferrum. Hannah Smith led the way against Ferrum, setting a program record with 28 kills while hitting .500 and adding 11 digs, five aces, and one block assist.

Scouting the Ducks

Stevens is 10-2 this season and remains unbeaten on the road at 5-0. After going 2-1 in a home quad last weekend, they secured a midweek win against Misericordia, with Meg Dion contributing nine kills and four blocks.

Scouting the Britons

Albion has started the season 2-13, with Carly Frank (160) and Kayda Herrick (141) leading the team in kills. Both of their wins have come in neutral site matches this year.
