GREENSBORO, N.C. -- In an early season top-ten matchup, the 9th-ranked Christopher Newport women's soccer team will travel to Guilford College on Saturday morning to face 10th-ranked Emory (3-0-0) in a neutral site matchup. The Captains (3-0-1) will kickoff at 11:00 am at Appenzeller Field at the Armfield Athletic Center.

The neutral site contest will be the fourth matchup all-time between the two sides with Christopher Newport boasting a 2-0-1 overall record against the Eagles. It will be the second time CNU has met up with Emory on a neutral field after the two played to a 1-1 draw in the 2014 Virginia Wesleyan season-opening tournament. Since, CNU captured a 2-1 win on the road in 2017 and a 2-0 win at home in 2019.
This season, Emory is off to a red-hot start with 15 goals and three shutouts in the team's first three games of the season. The Eagles disposed of Roanoke (4-0), Southern Virginia (5-0), and Berry (6-0) to start the year heading into the Saturday morning tilt against Christopher Newport. Mikayla Camp leads the offense with five goals while Kaitlyn Nimmer is adding six points on two goals and two assists. Eight different Emory players have finished for goals this season while 14 have at least one point.
The Eagles defense has allowed just seven total shots while veteran goalkeeper Sophia Garcia has done the bulk of the work in net with three saves this season. Emory ranks third nationally in shots per game while also leading the country in multiple defensive categories.
On the other side, Christopher Newport also features a strong defense that ranks in the top-40 nationally in goals-against average (0.25) and shutout percentage (.750). Senior All-American center back
Reanna Slater leads the defense while graduate student
Nyah Savage continues an impressive games started streak with 71 straight at one of the outside spots. Sophomore
Bella DiTommaso rounds out the starting defense while sophomore
Amy Sidaway has handled the bulk of the goalkeeping so far this season.
Offensively, junior
Hanna Heaton has three goals and an assist to lead the attack with seven points. Sophomore
Alex Dalakis has added a pair of goals while
Ellie Cox and
Molly Seventko have chipped in a pair of scoring strikes.
Following Saturday's neutral site matchup in North Carolina, the Captains will return home for a matchup against Trinity (Texas) on Friday, September 20.
