No. 32 CNU Men's Tennis Closes Regular Season With 8-1 Win at No. 41 Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport men's tennis team picked up an 8-1 win over No. 41 Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon to wrap up the 2024 regular season with an overall record of 12-6. The Captains swept doubles action and won five singles bouts against the Marlins to capture the most wins in a season since 2019. 

Winning at both singles and doubles were four Captains including sophomore Vincent Truong at No. 1 in both disciplines. Nesh Kumaresan also won at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 singles while Ashton Legum and Alex Seretis completed the quartet of multi-match winners for CNU. 

Christopher Newport opened the day with a dominant 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles where Ahun Vodela paired with Seretis for the win against Hovo Madanyan and Sebastien Muller. In the No. 2 doubles match, Legum played with Edvard Porsmyr Hansen for an 8-3 win against Carlos and Rafael Rullan Zallaga. 

Rounding out the doubles sweep at No. 1 were Truong and Kumaresan outlasting Ole Behrmann and Felix Bevc in a tiebreaker. The CNU tandem captured an 8-7 (7-5) win to complete the sweep and give Christopher Newport a 3-0 lead. 

In singles play, Truong downed Bevc at No. 1 in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, and Kumaresan defeated Rafael Rullan Zarraga at No. 3, 6-4, 6-3. Legum took down Tudor Vlad, 6-2, 6-4, in the matchup at No. 4, and Ryan Monroe earned the win against Hubert Parawa at No. 5, 6-3, 6-4. Finally, Seretis finished out his solid day with a three-set win against Muller at No. 6, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. 

Christopher Newport will now focus its attention on the postseason starting with the 2024 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament in Fredericksburg, Va. on May 3-5. Seeding and match times will be announced early next week at C2Csports.com.
