NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Facing a top-10 test in the regular season finale, the seventh-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will host 10th-ranked Washington and Lee in a non-conference contest at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the weekend, CNU sits at 12-4 on the season, including 7-2 at home. Meanwhile, Washington and Lee is 13-3 with a 6-3 mark on the road.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats will be available at CNUsports.com. The Captains will also provide a live broadcast of the contest with Randy Foster and Jackson Deal calling all of the action. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport comes into the battle on a four-game winning streak, including an 18-12 triumph over Colorado College last Sunday. Against the Tigers, Warner Cabaniss pieced together a clinic on faceoffs. The junior All-American won 18 of his 24 battles and secured 13 ground balls, which equaled the eighth-highest total in program history.

Along with that performance, Cabaniss also contributed three points, including his first career multi-goal effort. Additionally, his first strike came just four seconds into regulation, equaling the fastest opening tally in program history.

Aided by his work on Sunday, Cabaniss collected his 773rd career faceoff victory, tying former All-American Tony Cruz for the most in school history. That also stands as the 19th-most by any active player in the entire NCAA.

In addition to Cabaniss' historic work, Andrew Cook contributed four goals against Colorado College, while Drew Miller and Jude MacLean had three apiece. Alex Brendes also matched his career-high with four assists, while Zac Hanway added eight saves in 40 minutes of action.

With that appearance, Hanway eclipsed 3,900 career minutes, becoming just the ninth goalie in the history of collegiate lacrosse to reach that mark.

So far this season, Christopher Newport ranks third in the NCAA in clearing percentage (.909), 26th in shooting percentage (.328), and 29th in scoring offense (15.32 goals per game). Defensively, the Captains are 11th in the nation in takeaways-per-contest with a 13.19 average. Ryan Young ranks third in the conference with 33 caused turnovers, while AJ Rosacker is fourth with 26.

Washington and Lee comes into the weekend on a nine-game winning streak, including victories over No. 11 Lynchburg and No. 19 Roanoke. The Generals have already locked up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament after capturing the regular season championship with a pristine 9-0 record in league play.

Overall this season, W&L is fifth in the country in clearing percentage (.907), eighth in shooting percentage (.347), and 12th in scoring offense (17.00 goals per game). On an individual level, Tyler Spano is 23rd in the country in faceoff percentage (.656), while Nick DeCain is 35th in goals-against-average (9.37). Offensively, Alex Brown is averaging 3.44 goals per game and sits second in the country with a .567 shooting percentage.

In 11 previous meetings between the two programs, Washington and Lee holds a 6-5 edge in the series, although CNU has won the previous three match-ups. Last year, the Captains picked up a 16-11 win in Lexington behind five-goal eruptions from Brendes and Brett Jackson.

After wrapping up the regular season, Christopher Newport will open the league tournament on Wednesday at 1 p.m. The Captains will host a semifinal bout against the survivor of a first-round tilt between Stockton and Montclair State.
