NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Kicking off a three-game homestand with a busy weekend at Jennings Family Stadium, the eighth-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will welcome Stockton to town on Saturday for a Coastal Lacrosse Conference clash at noon before hosting Colorado College in a non-league tilt on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

Coming into the weekend, CNU sits at 10-4, while Stockton is 10-5. Both squads are also 3-1 in conference action. The winner of Saturday's tilt will lock up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming league tournament. Along with it, the victor will secure a first-round bye and a home game in the semifinals on May 1.

Meanwhile, Saturday's losing team will earn the No. 3 seed and host the No. 6 seed in the opening round on April 28.

Prior to Saturday's contest, Christopher Newport will also hold its annual Senior Day ceremony. The Captains will conduct an on-field celebration of the program's fourth-year competitors, which have helped the program advance to three straight NCAA Tournaments, including a pair of Final Four appearances. Along the way, the group has led the team to a 60-15 record since 2021 while climbing to first in the USILA National Coaches Poll.

On Sunday, the Captains will face a non-conference test against Colorado College, who currently sits at 7-4 on the season. The Tigers will square off against Southern Virginia on Friday before making the trek to Newport News.

For those fans unable to attend the games, live stats will be available at CNUsports.com. The Captains will also provide a live webcast of both contests with Will Geise and Randy Foster calling Saturday's tilt before Geise teams up with Andy McGregor on Sunday's broadcast. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a 17-3 victory at Mary Washington on Wednesday. The Captains held the Eagles scoreless during the first two quarters, marking the 14th time the program has pitched a first-half shutout. Eventually, UMW scored in the 34th minute, marking the latest opening strike by an opponent since Guilford was held quiet during the first 51 minutes on March 4, 2017.

AJ Rosacker matched his season-high with three caused turnovers against Mary Washington, while Brandon Young and Colin DeGrassi had two strips apiece. Between the pipes, the Captains registered 10 saves, including seven by Declan McCulloch during the first three quarters.

Offensively, seven players notched multi-goal games, including a seven-point eruption by Brett Jackson. His four assists in the game established a new career-high. Meanwhile, Kevin Miller also added a hat-trick, while Drew Miller, Alex Brendes, John Santoro, Carson Hoffman, and Jude MacLean all had two tallies apiece.

Putting Christopher Newport's well-balanced attack into perspective, 13 different Captains have now registered a multi-goal effort this season, while 27 have scored at least once. Among the high-volume scorers, Brendes and Drew Miller have collected a point in all 14 games, while Andrew Cook has deposited a goal in 13 of his 14 appearances.

Overall this year, Cook ranks second in the conference with 68 points and fourth with 41 goals and 27 assists. Among other top performers in the league, Warner Cabaniss is second in faceoff percentage (.638) and ground-balls-per-game (8.85), while Ryan Young is third with 29 caused turnovers. As a team, CNU is second in the nation in clearing percentage (.917), 15th in takeaways-per-game (12.64), and 28th in scoring offense (14.79 goals-per-game).

Stockton has also received impressive contributions from its faceoff specialist this season. Tyler Horvath is third in the league in faceoff percentage (.605) and first in ground-balls-per-game (9.47). The latter rate also places him 18th on the national charts.

The Ospreys are coming off of a 15-11 league victory against Montclair State last Saturday. Hayden Smallwood led the victors with five points, while Liam DiFonzo had four goals. Ben Blum also registered 13 saves, and Horvath won 17 of his 28 faceoffs.

Colorado College has won its last two games, including a 24-7 triumph at Centenary on April 7. The 24 tallies marked the program's highest total since 2021, while the 17-goal victory was the squad's largest of the year. Five Tigers sank at least two strikes, including Quinn Gordan, who had a hat-trick after scoring his first three collegiate goals.

So far this season, Colorado College ranks second in the NCAA with a .363 shooting percentage. The team is also 18th in scoring offense (16.09 goals per game). On an individual level, Thomas Power leads the team with 42 points, while Matt Hudson has a team-high 29 goals.

Saturday's contest will be CNU's second meeting with Stockton after knocking off the Ospreys, 25-8, last year. Meanwhile, the Captains are 2-1 against Colorado College, including a 26-3 triumph in 2022.

After this weekend, Christopher Newport will return to action on April 27 when the team wraps up the regular season with a 1 p.m. showdown with No. 10 Washington & Lee and Jennings Family Stadium.
