Christopher Newport is coming off of a 19-7 victory at Kean last Saturday. Against the Cougars, Kevin Miller erupted for five goals and three assists. His eight points equaled the second-highest output by a freshman in program history and earned him the league's Offensive Player of the Week award.

Along with Miller, Andrew Cook added seven points, including four goals, while Fred Fulkerson, Drew Miller, and Alex Brendes all had two strikes apiece. In addition to the high-volume scorers, Ryan Almassian, Logan Shassian, and Henry Crean all registered their second strike of the year during the bout with Kean.

Equally effective against the Cougars, Warner Cabaniss won 17 of his 21 faceoffs and snatched 12 ground balls. Declan McCulloch also nabbed eight saves while making his first collegiate start in the cage.

So far this season, Christopher Newport ranks second in the NCAA in clearing percentage (.908) and 18th in takeaways-per-game (12.54). The squad also leads the league with a .605 faceoff percentage, including a .626 mark by Cabaniss. The junior faceoff specialist ranks 30th in the country with an 8.58 ground-balls-per-game rate as well.

Mary Washington is coming off of an 18-6 setback at No. 1 Salisbury last Wednesday. During that contest, the Sea Gulls jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back. Six different Eagles found the back of the net for UMW, including a pair of points from Jackson Popeck. Wyatt Martin also snatched 15 saves during 35 minutes of work.

Overall this season, Keegan Shipe ranks 13th in the NCAA with a 3.15 takeaways-per-game rate. As a team, Mary Washington is forcing 11.69 turnovers per contest, which places the squad 39th on the national charts. Meanwhile, on the offensive end, Popeck leads the Eagles with 39 points, while Dave Votapek has a team-high 25 goals.

In 20 previous meetings between the two programs, Christopher Newport holds an 11-9 edge in the series, including a 27-13 win last year in Fredericksburg. During that showdown, Cook had four goals for the Captains, while Brendes, Drew Miller, and Jamie Smith all added hat-tricks.

After Wednesday's road swing, CNU will settle in for three straight home games to wrap up the regular season, beginning with a noon test against Stockton on Saturday.
