NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport baseball team will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as the Captains (15-6) are set to host Pfeiffer University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Captains Park as CNU looks to extend a modest four-game winning streak.
Christopher Newport is taking on a Pfeiffer squad that is 9-12 to start the season. It will be the third matchup all time between the two programs after the Captains earned a sweep of the home-and-home series last season with a 6-0 win at home and a 10-1 win on the road.
The Captains have won seven of the last eight games while moving up to No. 20 in the D3baseball.com National Rankings. CNU is 8-4 in home games this season and is coming into the matchup after winning two in a row.

The CNU pitching staff has led the way featuring two of the top-ten Division III arms in total strikeouts this season as sophomore
Brandon Cassedy leads the country with 72 punchouts and
Dylan Weber ranks ninth with 56. With
Kyle Lewis anchoring a strong bullpen in a team-high 11 appearances, the Captains rank second in K/9 and third in ERA this season.
Offensively, four Captains have led the way with 20+ RBI this season including a team-high 22 from sophomore
Josh Reinhold and junior
Lincoln Lubsen. The Captains are hitting .295 as a team with six starters hitting over .300 this season. Reinhold is hitting .341 and
Scott Crosson is hitting .329 out of the leadoff spot for CNU.
Pfeiffer is led by Wilson Lohrer, hitting .386 while ranking among the national leaders in sacrifice bunts with seven. The Falcons also feature Joe Javier, hitting .357, and Zach Ferrell, with a .333 average and 16 RBI.
Following the Tuesday afternoon matinee, the Captains will return to action on Saturday, April 6 against Mary Washington in the first Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference matchup of the season.
