CNU Baseball Ranked No. 22 in Week 4 Poll; Captains Travel to Marymount on Tuesday

TYSONS, Va. -- Playing at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va., the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport baseball team (10-5) will look to make it three wins in a row when they make the return trip to face Marymount University (11-3) in the home-and-home season series. The Captains are coming off a 9-3 win against the Saints on Friday afternoon at Captains Park. 

Prior to the Tuesday afternoon matchup, the Week 4 poll was released by D3baseball.com, listing Christopher Newport at No. 22 in the country. The Captains were 2-0 last week after being ranked No. 18 in the Week 3 version of the poll. 

On Tuesday, the Captains will take on the Saints for the 17th time in program history with a 13-3 overall advantage in the series. Christopher Newport has won seven in a row, including Friday's 9-3 win behind a dominant pitching performance by C2C Pitcher of the Week Brandon Cassedy. In the win, Cassedy struck out 11 before Dylan Weber came on to earn his first career save with 2.2 no-hit innings of relief.

Christopher Newport comes into the week ranked fifth nationally in K/9 as the pitching staff has averaged 11.3 strikeouts per nine inning game. CNU also ranks ninth in the country in ERA with a 2.94 team mark, bouyed by the impressive starts of Cassedy and Weber. Weber leads the squad with a 1.40 ERA in 25.2 innings pitched while Cassedy has struck out a team-high 49 batters over 30.0 innings pitched, featuring a 1.50 ERA. 

At the plate, junior catcher Lincoln Lubsen leads the way with a .391/.524/.609 slash line that includes a team-high 18 RBI. Zach Dzarnowski and Josh Reinhold have also each driven in 18 this season while Reinhold ranks second on the team in runs scored with 17. 

Marymount will counter with a squad led by leadoff man Bobby Leitzel hitting .368 this season. Ryan Cuadros has a team-high 15 RBI while former Captain Alec Reilly is hitting .308 with three extra-base hits so far this season. On the mound, David Muirhead is 2-1 with a 1.90 ERA in five appearances this Spring while Ryan Mariani has a 2.93 ERA  for the Saints. 

Following the Tuesday afternoon matchup, the Captains will return home for a three-game set this weekend against Piedmont University. Game one will be played on Friday, March 22 at 3:00 p.m. On Saturday, the Captains will host the Medina14 Foundation Game against the Lions at 1:00 p.m., and the final game of the series will be played at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
