NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport volleyball team concluded its 2024 season on Saturday night, falling to No. 11 Washington & Lee in the NCAA Regional Final at the Freeman Center.
First Set
The Captains got off to a strong start, with
Alyssa Dozier scoring the team's first three points on kills. Washington & Lee responded with a 13-10 advantage, but Christopher Newport stormed back, taking an 18-14 lead thanks to two kills each from Dozier and
Samantha Dorn, as well as an ace from
Noelle Starr. The Generals rallied to tie the score at 20, but
Megan James provided three crucial kills to bring up set point for the Captains. However, Washington & Lee held off CNU and won the set, 27-25.
Second Set
The second frame was tightly contested, with neither team gaining more than a two-point advantage until late in the set. Washington & Lee took a narrow 20-17 lead, but the Captains answered with a block from
Alli Pratt and
Carley Coghill plus an ace from
Alyssa Vitale to close the gap. The Generals responded again, using a late surge to secure the set and build a 2-0 lead in the match.
Third Set
Dozier continued to shine in the third set, contributing two early blocks and two kills. However, Washington & Lee built an early five-point advantage that the Captains could not overcome. Dorn and James each tallied three kills in the set, but the Generals closed out the set and the match in the third set.

- Alyssa Dozier recorded four solo blocks, giving her three or more solo blocks in each match of the regional.
- CNU tallied nine total blocks, tied for their second-most in a three-set match this season.
