NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -
The 2024 football season comes to a close Friday night as the Captains of Christopher Newport University host the Lions of the College of New Jersey. The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) clash will kick off at 6:00 p.m. at TowneBank Stadium, and it will be Senior Night with pre-game ceremonies beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Paul Crowley's squad is looking to continue its winning ways, as the Captains have won four straight games and are now 6-3 overall, and 4-1 in the NJAC. CNU is coming off a 33-10 road win last week at Montclair State, and finished the road schedule with a 4-1 mark. The victory last Saturday assured the Captains of their third straight winning record under Crowley.

"We've got a fantastic group of young men who will be playing college football for the last time Friday night," Crowley said. "This is all about honoring them for the many hours of hard work and dedication they've devoted to our program, and going out there and playing at a high level and taking care of business. There's the possibility of a co-championship, but again this is about our seniors and sending them off in the proper way."

Although Salisbury is guaranteed of the automatic NCAA Tournament bid from the NJAC, a victory Friday by CNU coupled with a Salisbury loss on Saturday to Kean would result in a co-championship. Christopher Newport won its first-ever NJAC title last year, and finished with a 7-4 record.

The College of New Jersey has a record of 6-3 overall and the Lions are 3-2 in the NJAC this season heading into Friday's battle under the lights. TCNJ is coming off a 21-14 victory last Saturday at William Paterson that guaranteed TCNJ its first winning season since 2011. The Lions feature one of the top passing offenses in Division III, led by fifth-year senior quarterback Trevor Bopp, who has thrown 23 touchdown passes this year and 47 for his career. Offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator Eric Jendryaszek is serving as the Lions' interim head coach for the 2024 season.

Tickets are still available for Friday's game, and will go on sale at TowneBank Stadium Friday at 4:00 p.m. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Friday.

All Captains games are broadcast live on the Home of the Captains, Xtra 99.1 FM and CNUsports.com. The pre-game show Friday will begin at 5:30 p.m. Links are provided at the top of this story to the live video of the game, as well as the Live Stats.
