Last Time Out

The Captains played three matches over the weekend, defeating Mary Washington 3-0 before falling twice to UC Santa Cruz. In their sweep of Mary Washington, the Captains posted their highest hitting percentage of the season at .371. CNU's attack was simply too much for the Eagles, who managed just three blocks. Leading the charge for the Captains was Alyssa Dozier, who tallied 10 kills on 16 swings for a .563 hitting percentage. Macy Burk was also efficient, finishing with seven kills on 12 attempts and a .500 hitting percentage.

By The Numbers

Noelle Starr continues to be a defensive standout, leading the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference with 358 digs this season. She is the only player in the conference with more than 300 digs and now has the third-most in CNU history with 1,867 career digs.

Series History

Christopher Newport holds a 22-11 record against Washington & Lee, a series dating back to 1990. The Captains have won the last nine meetings, including a record-setting win last season. In that match, CNU recorded 73 kills—the most in a match since 2005 and the highest since sets switched from 30 points to 25. It also marked the most kills in Freeman Center history. Sammy Carroll assisted on 59 kills, while Noelle Starr recorded 40 digs, setting a Freeman Center record and tying for the second-most digs in school history.

Scouting the Generals

Washington & Lee enters the match ranked 14th in the AVCA poll with a 19-1 record. The Generals are coming off their first loss of the season, falling to top-ranked Juniata last weekend. Washington & Lee ranks in the top 10 nationally in assists per set (12.67, 10th overall) and digs per set (20.64, 3rd overall).
