Newport News, Va. - This weekend, the Christopher Newport volleyball team will head to Fredericksburg, Virginia, for the Coast-to-Coast Invitational. The Captains will face conference rivals Mary Washington and UC Santa Cruz in a trio of matches.
Match Details
The Captains will begin their weekend with a Saturday noon match against Mary Washington before facing UC Santa Cruz at 4:00 PM the same day. Christopher Newport will then play UC Santa Cruz once again on Sunday morning at 11:00 AM. All matches will be held at the University of Mary Washington and will be streamed live on the
UMW Network.

Christopher Newport split their matches last weekend at Salisbury. The Captains fell to the Sea Gulls but bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Scranton. Graduate setter

Macy Burk reached the 300-block milestone last weekend, raising her career total to 301 blocks. She is now just one block shy of entering the top ten in school history. The next milestone she is aiming for is Meghan Puckli's 302 blocks, which rank tenth in the program's record book.
Series History
The Captains are 18-29 all-time against Mary Washington, with a rivalry dating back to 1979. Christopher Newport has won three of their last six trips to Fredericksburg. The Captains hold a 5-2 record against UC Santa Cruz, winning their last three meetings, all of which took place in the 2023 season.
Scouting the Eagles
Mary Washington enters the weekend with a 10-10 record. Last weekend, they split their matches, beating Catholic but falling to Juniata. In midweek action, the Eagles swept Marymount in straight sets. Setter Lauren Foley is the team leader in both assists (323) and service aces (30) this season.
Scouting the Banana Slugs
UC Santa Cruz comes into the weekend with an 8-10 record. Two weeks ago, they lost all three matches in a challenging road trip against MIT, Johns Hopkins, and NYU. However, they opened their home schedule last weekend with a win over Simpson. Kelly Ann Greene has been a key contributor for UCSC with 148 kills (second on the team) and a team-best 27 aces.
