Hannah Kaloi Named Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week; Captains Travel to Rowan Wednesday

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference announced on Tuesday the league's basketball players of the week for the period between December 18 and January 1, listing Christopher Newport University junior Hannah Kaloi as the women's basketball selection. The Captains' veteran returned to the lineup after missing the first seven games and has made an immediate impact as the team's leading scorer averaging over 11 points per game.

Over the stretch of season in question, the nationally-ranked Captains played four games including three neutral site contests and one road game. CNU went 3-1 while Kaloi led the way averaging 14.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. She was terrific from the free-throw line, knocking down 22-of-24 attempts from the line over the last four games for a 91.7 percent efficiency rate, and is hitting over 88 percent on the season (30-34).

At the Music City Classic in Gallatin, Tenn., Kaloi and the Captains earned wins over Grove City College and nationally-ranked Whitman College. Against the latter, Kaloi led CNU with 17 points while adding three rebounds, an assist and one steal.

Then, CNU traveled to New Jersey to face SUNY New Paltz and Stevens at the Stevens Holiday Classic. In the tournament, Kaloi averaged 18.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game including her first 20+ point performance of the season against New Paltz. In the two-day event, the Captains' forward added four steals, three assists, and three blocks.

CNU will be back in action on Wednesday to wrap up an eight-game road trip that extends back through the start of December with an away game at Rowan University at 2:00 pm. The Captains are 13-1 overall this season and will be matching up against the Profs for just the second time in the all-time series history. Last season, the two had the inaugural bout with Christopher Newport pulling away in a 93-60 victory at the Freeman Center on December 30, 2022.

Rowan is 6-5 this season after dropping their last two games to conference opponents. The Profs feature the NJAC's top three-point shooting offense that ranks 42nd nationally, knocking down 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. Sabrina Araujo is in the top-40 individually, hitting 44.0 percent with 2.0 per game while Kate Herlihy is adding 2.0 per game on 35.5 percent. Herlihy leads the team with 15.5 points per game so far this season.

Christopher Newport will lean on the C2C Player of the Week, Kaloi, along with the rest of the high-octane rotation that includes 14 active players averaging 10.5 minutes per game or more. Joining Kaloi's 11.1 points per game, senior Alivia Giles is also averaging double figures with 10.2 while senior Camille Malagar is pouring in 9.8 per game. Katy Rader has also returned to the lineup for the last five games, adding 8.2 points per contest.

Live stats and a live video webcast will be available with links at CNUsports.com.

Following the road trip to New Jersey, Christopher Newport will return to the Freeman Center on Friday, January 5 to host Cheyney University of Pennsylvania at 3:00 p.m.
