NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport Volleyball wraps up their four game season opening homestand on Wednesday as Virginia Wesleyan crosses the James River to visit the Captains.

Last Time Out
CNU finished 1-2 in the Captains Classic over the weekend, with a win over Muskingum and five-set losses to UW-Stevens Point and Mount St. Joseph.
Alyssa Dozier and
Sammy Carroll were named to the All Tournament team following the final match. Dozier had 23 kills and just one error across the three matches. She also totaled 10 blocks and added nine service aces. Carroll posted efforts of 37, 32, and 43 assists in the first three matches of the season. She's the D3 active career leader in assists with 3,904.

Series History
CNU holds a 20-3 advantage over Virginia Wesleyan in the all-time series, including a season sweep in 2022. The Captains won an early season matchup at the Freeman center in four sets before taking another four set match later in the year in Virginia Beach. Dating back to 2021, CNU has a three-match winning streak against the Marlins.
Scouting the Marlins
Virginia Wesleyan hosted the Marlin Invitational and came up with a 4-0 tournament sweep in their opening weekend. They won in three sets against Thiel, Southern Virginia, Salem (NC), and Plymouth State. Three Marlins posted 30 or more kills over the weekend with graduate setter Haley Sutton assisting on 80 kills.
