NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport will look to bounce back from a 20-14 loss last Saturday at 14th-ranked Johns Hopkins, as the Captains host the Bullets of Gettysburg College. Kickoff time is set for 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Kelchner Field at TowneBank Stadium.
Both squads are 1-1 heading into their first meeting ever. Last week,
Paul Crowley's team was hurt by crucial mistakes in the loss to the Blue Jays, and has worked hard this week to alleviate those woes.
"We had several self-inflicted wounds last week, and that's something we have to clean up," Crowley said. "It's been a good week on the practice field, and I think we're ready to compete at a high level. We certainly can't take Gettysburg lightly, they've got very good personnel and are well-coached so this will be a good challenge for our program."
Christopher Newport opened the year at home two weks ago with a 45-0 win over Southern Virginia University prior to the loss at Johns Hopkins. Gettysburg will be playing its first road game of the season, and opened the new year with a home victory over Juniata, 40-20, before falling last week at home to NJAC member Montclair State, 32-21. The Bullets were 1-9 a year ago.
Reserved chairback tickets for the game are sold out. General admission tickets will be available at the TowneBank Stadium gate beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Stadium gates will open to all fans at 3:00 p.m.
All Christopher Newport games are broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
