Volleyball Travels West for Weekend Action

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport Volleyball continues their road trip this weekend as they venture out to western Virginia to visit Washington & Lee along with Bridgewater.

Match Details

The Captains travel to Washington & Lee on Friday for a 6:00 p.m. matchup before heading to Bridgewater for two matches. CNU faces Shenandoah at 1:00 p.m. ahead of their 3:00 p.m. matchup with Bridgewater. 

Last Time Out

Christopher Newport went 1-2 last weekend at the Asics Invitational. The Captains beat Carnegie Mellon but lost to No. 1 Juniata and No. 10 Berry. Over the weekend, CNU setter Sammy Carroll reached the 4,000 assist mark and became the second player in CNU history to do so. Meanwhile, freshman Samantha Dorn has led the Captains in kills and is the conference leader with 107 kills this season.

By The Numbers

68 - The Captains led all C2C teams with 68 service aces so far this season. It's been a balanced effort too with Sammy Carroll, Alyssa Dozier, and Noelle Starr tied for the team lead with 11 aces. Julia Gleason has the next best total with 10.

Series History

The Captains are 20-14 against Washington & Lee in their respective histories. CNU has won the last seven straight against the Generals. The Captains hold a 39-9 series lead on Shenandoah with 33 straight victories. CNU leads the series lead over Bridgewater 11-10 after last year's three set win.

Scouting the Generals

Washington & Lee are a perfect 9-0 to start the season. The Generals have only surrendered three sets this season. They've accomplished that with stout defensive play that's currently averaging more than two blocks per set and 18 digs per set.. On her own, Ryan Taylor averages over one block per set.

Scouting the Hornets

Shenandoah holds a 5-4 record coming into the weekend after splitting a four game set last weekend and winning a midweek match against Hollins. The Hornets' setter Abby Lichtenfels has been solid this season with a conference leading 280 assists this season.

Scouting the Eagles

Bridgewater is 8-1 this season. They've won five in a row only dropping one set in those five matches. Reagan Stoop has been leading the way for the Eagles' attack so far this season. She boasts the 17th-most points in the country of 135.
